New Center is a very charming area of Sevier County which reminds me of the way Sevier County looked quite some time ago. The picturesque rolling pastures, barns, and beautiful old farm houses create a character easy to fall in love with. New Center has a couple historic areas of relevance such as the Blowing Cave Mill and several old homesteads. Combined with the excellent views of English Mountain and the easy access to Sevierville and Newport, I believe this area is one with growth potential. New Center is accessed via Dolly Parton Parkway (Highway 411) just East of downtown Sevierville. Future plans are set to make road improvements (four lanes and altering the route near Newport) on the already quite ample 55 mph road. It is an easy 10-15 minute drive from New Center to downtown Sevierville.
 There are many farms still operating in the area, although some new upper scale subdivisions (such as English Farm Estates, Burning Oaks, and Denison Meadows ) are being developed as well as some more high density housing. Land fronting Dolly Parton Parkway used as farms and other housing are in the process of being converted to various commercial endeavors. New Center, in my opinion, offers one of the best options in Sevier County for permanent residents and locals. The real estate is relatively affordable, offers tremendous views, and is convenient in location for travel to Sevierville and shopping. The scenic views of English Mountain are spectacular and the area has a feeling of a tight knit community. There are a few local restaurants that offer excellent food such as "Clint's BBQ And Family Restuarant" (some of the best ribs & food EVER!) which offers Live Bluegrass Music played by Clint Himself on Tuesday's. Another place of interest is Sims Tractor & Implement (look for the tractor up in the air!)

About Blowing Cave Mill in New Center, TN
"At the end of the Reconstruction Era Elbert Stephenson Early and his brother William Early relocated to Tennessee from Virginia. The two formed a carpentry business in Sevier County appropriately named "The Early Brothers". Elbert and William are credited with constructing a number of historic structures in Sevier County, which include, Murphy's Chapel, the Nave-Dickey House, the Murphy-Allen House, the Harrisburg Covered Bridge and the Blowing Cave Mill. The mill, which replaced a previous mill "Tub Mill", was completed in the spring or summer of 1880. The mill is located near the head of Flat Creek in the Byrds Cross Roads area of Sevier County, at the foot of English Mountain. The two and a half story frame structure features a raised limestone foundation, a gable roof, and four-over-four wood sash windows. The original wooden waterwheel was replaced with the current 16 ft. Fitz Overshot waterwheel around 1941. The Blowing Cave mill is an excellent example of the flour and corn mills constructed throughout Sevier County in the nineteenth century and is one of the few remaining in Tennessee." |
