Gatlinburg Real Estate and Cabin Rentals in the Smoky Mountains
Most of Gatlinburg real estate is considered prime for its location adjacent to the Smoky Mountains National Park. Gatlinburg is surrounded on three sides by the majestic Great Smoky Mountains National Park and has evolved from a rural hamlet to a thriving gateway community in less than a century.First named White Oak Flats for the abundant white oak trees in the valley, it was settled in the early 1800's by English, Scotch, Irish, and Scotch-Irish immigrants. From a small mountain village to a four-season resort, Gatlinburg and vicinity offer a glimpse of both eras.
Gatlinburg offers a variety of rental cabins, second homes, and vacation homes in the Smoky Mountains. Prices range from approximately $200,000 to well over $1 million. The majority of homes built in Gatllinburg are log homes or "log look" cabins. Many offer spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
The Chalet Village area in Gatlinburg offers a variety of propertes ranging from those built in the 1970's to brand new construction. There are varying styles of architecture in Chalet Village - from cottages, chalets, A-Frames, and log cabins. Many properties in Chalet Village have easy access to Ober Gatlinburg and the ski resort. Ober Gatlinburg is easiest accessed from Ski Mountain Road at the last light in Gatlinburg before entering the Smoky Mountains National Park. Chalet Village North can be accessed from Wiley Oakley in the North portion of Gatlinburg and is the newer section of Chalet Village.
Being in the mountains, many of the lots are steep and somewhat difficult to build on, creating expensive foundations. With this extra expense does come a reward - usually a beautiful view. If you currently own a lot in Gatlinburg or are looking to build a new log home in Gatlinburg, I can help schedule meetings with custom log home (and timber frame) builders in the Smokies.
Many of the homes in Gatlinburg are placed on a cabin rental program for overnight rentals. You can learn more about investing in Gatlinburg cabin rentals and log homes in the investments portion of my website.

Cabin foreclosures and short sales in the Gatlinburg area were prominent in the 2008 to 2012 time frame. Gatlinburg cabin foreclosures were most abundant in certain developments such as Elk Springs Resort, Settler's Ridge, Mountain Shadows Resort, Sky Harbor, Overlook at Greystone Heights, and a few other developments along with foreclosure cabins on scattered lots. Short sales were also prominent among cabins from 2008 to 2012, but have drastically decreased since 2013.
