Smoky Mountain Lookout Towers

There are several lookout towers (fire towers) still standing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There are even more that have been removed or became unstable due to time and weather effects.

Here are the lookout towers still standing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park:

  • Cove Mountain
  • Mount Cammerer
  • Mount Sterling
  • Shuckstack

Please take some time to view the website above they need $2,178 to make an effort to help restore Shuckstack Lookout Tower. It is an incredible place with amazing views of Fontana Dam. Also, the historical aspect of it is something that needs to be preserved and cherished.

Cove Mountain Firetower - Elevation 4,077'

Cove Mountain Lookout Tower - Please note that my Jeep is up there. I had permission to access the area via the private property on Cove Mountain. The tower is also accessible via hiking. Please do NOT drive up to the fire tower without permission from the land owners. Plus, you will probably get stuck!Cove Mountain Firetower - 4,077' Elevation

Situated near the peak of Cove Mountain is its firetower. Currently it is used by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Service to determine pollution in the area and National Park. Elevation is 4,150 feet at the top of Cove Mountain and the fire tower is at 4,077'.
